A few weeks back, there was a story involving a prophet which went pretty viral. So basically, before this randy prophet prays for you, you have to be naked, not just that, you have to be a woman. He claims that God hears prayer faster when you are naked. He eventually got a married woman pregnant and that’s what made the story break.
The woman had come to him with her mother, seeking spiritual healing. And guess what she went to him for; a cough. She had a cough but didn’t go to a doctor but to a prophet. The details of what actually transpired between are so stupid that I would feel more stupid if I include it here, but at least you guys get the gist.
The day I read that story I was so angry because I wondered how someone could be so stupid and unthinking. Where in the bible did Jesus pray for someone naked? Where in the bible is it recommended that before you talk to God, you should be naked?
Now, this is the problem with a lot of Christians, we don’t read the Bible, we don’t know God for ourselves, we don’t have a PERSONAL relationship with God, we feel like to reach God we must go through a Pastor or a prophet. When Jesus died on the cross, he said, “it is finished” and the veil of the temple was torn in two; from top to bottom; signifying that there was no more barrier to access God.
The craze of seeking out prophets is getting really common. The want to know future happenings and supposedly “hear” from God has become so appetizing that people are ready to do anything just to seek out one. And unfortunately, people usually suspend their thinking faculties, or how else can you explain laying on top of someone naked all in the name of prayer? Or pouring a liquid in someone’s private part, because she is looking for a child? Or invoking the “spirit that loses weight to reduce someone’s weight?
I take this subject very personally because I have experienced first-hand what some prophets do in the lives of people. They destroy homes & families and cause divisions and after my experience, I don’t seek them, neither do I regard them.
This is my take on prophets: prophets are only to confirm what God has already told you. In Romans 8:14, it is said As many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the Sons of God not as many as are led by prophets are the children of God. Prophets are not for the New Testament church, they thrived in the days of the Old Testament because they were the medium through which God communicated to his people. But now, we have the Holy Spirit and we can communicate with God directly.
While I was preparing for this write-up, I stumbled upon a book by Kenneth Hagin; “How to be Led by the Spirit of God” and I knew it wasn’t a coincidence because, in the book, he wrote a lot on this subject.
Here are a few quotes from the book,
“The prophet of the New Testament is very similar to the prophet of the Old Testament in that they were called seers because they saw and knew things supernaturally. The prophet of the New Testament also sees & knows things supernaturally, but the prophet of the New Testament does not have the same status as the prophet of the Old Testament, in that Christ did not set prophets in the Church to guide the church. A Christian under the New Testament need not seek guidance through prophets. He/she might receive guidance through prophets, but he should not seek it. It is unscriptural to do so. The ministry of the New Testament prophet is only to confirm what people already have in their own spirit.
Under the old covenant, only the priest, the prophet, and the king were anointed by the Holy Spirit to stand in those offices. Therefore under the Old Covenant, people would seek guidance through the prophet because he had the spirit of God.
But under the New Testament, we not only have the Spirit of God upon us – we have Him in us.
If you’re born again, the Holy Spirit is living and abiding in your spirit and he speaks. There are three basic ways you can be led by the spirit
- The Inward witness: a nudging feeling in your spirit leading, telling and directing you in what you should do.
- The inward still small voice: the inward man, who is a spirit man, has a voice-just as the outward man has a voice. We call this voice of the inward man “conscience”. We call this voice the still small voice. Your spirit has a voice. Your spirit will speak to you.
- The more authoritative voice of the Holy Spirit: when the Holy Spirit within you speaks, it is more authoritative. Sometimes it is so real that it almost seems to be an audible voice; you may even look around to see who said it.
Guys and ladies, please discover God for yourselves, study the scriptures; don’t be bamboozled by confused men. Don’t be a lazy Christian. How long will you be spoon fed? No matter what anyone tells you before you believe it or do it, confirm first from the Bible. The fact that you’re a Christian does not mean, your brain should be on holiday. God gave us brains for a reason and that is to think, please use it. Being logical is not a sin. Experience God for yourself, He is real and He speaks. He loves you and wants to have a relationship with you. Please don’t deny Him.
I hope this post has blessed you. Thank you for reading.
