So on Boxing Day; the 26th, I was finally able to see the Wedding Party…the most anticipated movie of the year. EbonyLife Tv had successfully kept us all in suspense, with the mouthwatering trailer.
Immediately the movie came out on December 16, I made a mental note, to see the movie. I had previously heard from friends that tickets were always sold out if you got there late.
Anyway, on the 26th I and my siblings were off to the cinema. The movie was to begin by 2:10 pm, we arrived 2 pm, joined the longest queue I had ever seen in a cinema; by the time we got to the counter my fears were confirmed. The movie had sold out.
There were other options, but I told myself “by fire by force, I must watch wedding party”. We had to wait for at least 2hrs because the next time the movie would show was 4:20 pm. We used the free opportunity to roam and window shop (my favorite thing to do).
You guys wouldn’t believe that when we got to the cinema hall, all the seats were occupied save for the first row…chai. I couldn’t believe it. I have never sat on the front row before, all efforts to get a seat behind, for where; no luck.
With no choice na, we had to seat there. It was that day I cherished seating behind.
Then the movie started, like fifteen minutes after, the movie suddenly stopped showing. I was like which kain thing be this until a lady’s pictures were been flashed across the screen. Then I whispered to my sister “maybe a proposal is about to take place”. I was right, few seats behind me a guy was proposing to his bae.
I have only read about this type of serenre in social media and blogs, but I have never witnessed it. Heck, I have never witnessed a proposal before. Lol. So that was my first time.
Unfortunately for the guy, the video he wanted silverbird to play had no volume, but at least, his babe said yes. She was so much in shock; she didn’t even know how to behave. Lol.
Even though I would love a public proposal; that is if I want to be proposed to, my school of thought is why a proposal? when you both know you’re getting married, abi what is the essence of the relationship in the first place (that’s a topic for another day), I wouldn’t want it in the middle of a movie in a cinema.
You know if it happens during a movie, I won’ have time to really celebrate or feign surprise or just be the center of attraction (hahaha).
Back to the movie, the movie was fun, it was hilarious…especially when it got to Emmaohmagod part, I laughed eh, I nearly passed out. Everyone brought their A game. I can confidently say that The Wedding Party is the best Nigerian movie I have ever seen. It’s that good. A lot of things will shock you in the movie, I even shed some few tears, you will laugh and learn a lot. The wedding party is a movie I can watch over and over again.
Needless to say, by the time the movie was over, there was another waiting queue to see it.
EbonyLife Tv just raised the bar, great job guys and I must mention the director Kemi Adetiba, this is her first time directing a movie and she blew my mind.
Whatever you’re doing next weekend, cancel it and go see The Wedding Party.
