I had being thinking of having an interview segment on the blog and I had an opportunity to interview a very successful celeb but schedules and our different locations did not make it possible(though it’s still in the works).
On Tuesday while speaking with a dear friend of mine, an idea just popped in my head, why don’t I interview her (my friend) and I told her and she immediately agreed to it. Meanwhile this was already 9pm, the interview took 3hrs and it lasted till midnight. I really appreciate her humility and openness, the sky is just her starting point.
She’s Damilola Esho; a graduate of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and the CEO of Happy Chap Cocktails, headquartered in Lagos Nigeria. This interview is a must read for everyone especially those who are entrepreneurs or aspiring entrepreneurs. Without mincing words, it is mind blowing; you will learn a lot and be inspired.
This is the continuation of yesterday’s mind blowing interview. To read the part 1, kindly CLICK HERE. Yesterday was nothing, today’s version will cause a shift in your mindset. Don’t forget to read, be inspired, comment and share. Enjoy.
GL: What mindset/habit would you say is important for success in business?
DAMI: I presently work in a travel company and instead of travelling to nay part of the world; I decided to save all the money I have for my business. God has being there for me. You have to believe in your God given talent. I read a particular book one time and one particular quote struck me, “It says our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually who are we not to be. We are meant to shine as children of God and we were born to manifest the glory of God that is in us and as we let our light shine, we also give other people the permission to do so.
GL: How have you being able to juggle working in a travel company and running your own business?
DAMI: It’s difficult sometimes because my job is very demanding and I have to create time for my business. But when you do what you love, you don’t see it as a job but rather a passion. You have more fun that way.
GL: In a society where some ladies feel all they need is a rich guy to take care of them, what made you be your own boss, what is your drive for success?
DAMI: The need to be something bigger than what I am now. When I was much younger, I told my dad that I wanted to be rich to help the less privileged and to make my own mark in this world. He told me to go for it and I should do whatever makes me happy.
GL: Would you say your entrepreneurial spirit is in borne, or is it cultivated?
DAMI: It’s in borne; and as I grew older, I started working on improving myself and staying positive.
GL: What is your definition of success?
DAMI: My definition of success is putting your own footprint on the sands of time; making your own mark in this world. “People want to be rich and successful for themselves alone but when you touch lives; that’s taking it ten steps forward”.
GL: What advice would you give to upcoming entrepreneurs?
DAMI: My advice to upcoming entrepreneurs is for them to believe in their dreams. Go for what you have the passion for. The money might not come at first, but trust me; it will come eventually. For every progress you make, be proud of yourself no matter what people say.
GL: It’s being a pleasure speaking with you Miss Damilola Esho, we thank you for your time and your openness and we wish Happy Chap Cocktails many more successes.
DAMI: Thank you too.
