Colossians 3:1-2 “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your heart on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God . Set your mind on things above and not on earthly things.”
Children most often bear similar resemblance to their parents both physically and in attitude. This is mainly due to the genes and DNA structures that are inherited at birth.
It is impossible for a lion to give birth to a dog or for an eagle to give birth to a chicken. A lion can only birth a lion that looks and acts like a lion. In the same way, we are meant to look, sound and act like our heavenly father such that when men come in contact with you they can tell who you belong to.
Matthew 20:28 (NIV) “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Mark 10:43 “Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be a servant”.
Simply put, Service is the action of helping or doing work for someone. It goes beyond being involved at departmental levels in church but also a lifestyle where you are eager to offer a helping hand to someone in need of it.
Think about the people God allows to come across your way every day, people who through just lending them a helping hand, being there to offer support and comfort in their times of need and so on will be drawn to want to know more about your Kingdom and King because of the way they see Jesus reflected in your life of service.
The world we live in has a natural tendency to be selfish but we are called to be selfless. In this world we live in, men seek to be recognized, to be placed above their fellow men at all costs. That however is not the culture of our Kingdom; we are to do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility we are to value others above ourselves (Philippians 2:3).
Wherever God has placed you, in your community, your work place, your church and your family, remember that service is the attitude of our Kingdom. Let that be what sets you apart.
Today is a gift; don’t let it go to waste.
