Like most of us in Nigeria; I have two (2) phones. You know with the multiple network lines we have, we patronise a lot of them because there’s always an “awoof” going on ( lol who no like beta thing) or the fact that we buy each line for different purposes.
Take, for example, MTN was my first love, until I got a job at Etisalat and I had to get an Etisalat line. All was well until Airtel came along with affordable data rates and I bought an Airtel line. In fact the Airtel line is my major number, I always say whoever doesn’t have that number is not my true friend (LMAO).
In view of all these, I had to get two phones, my major phone; an android (Samsung) and my palasa (lol) a Nokia torch light. You see I’ve always respected the Nokia brand, my Samsung battery would run down but my able Nokia will always have battery. It never failed; I used it as an alarm, a torch light, etc. So imagine my disappointment when the phone stopped ringing out; people will call me but I wouldn’t know because it wouldn’t ring out, it wouldn’t even vibrate.
Unfortunately, this is the second time the phone will disappoint me, the first time it just stopped functioning, I went to a Nokia store and I was told it couldn’t be repaired because it had no second-hand value; I was really annoyed (lol). Anyway, after this second time of disappointment; I told myself I was done with Nokia. Forget the fact that a new Nokia torch light will cost me like 8-10k.
So I remembered one beautiful phone I had earlier seen a month ago; at the time it cost
N3500 (don’t mind me, I love cheaper things), I went to the shop and excitedly got it. I couldn’t wait to start using it. Off I went home to have it fully charged, I had already inserted my memory card, and my two sim cards in it, I was just waiting for it to be fully charged.
When it was fully charged; I excitedly put it on, hmmm I was in for a shocker. The phone is just beautiful without any substance, the keypads are so hard, the volume is beyond bad; its difficult hearing when speaking to someone with it, text messages are difficult to read; In fact, I could go on and on. I started wishing my Nokia wasn’t bad, but then what is my point?
It was then it struck me, this is exactly how some people are, they’re so attractive on the outside, the outward appearance is on point; In fact when you see them you immediately wish you were that beautiful or they were your friends, or you could just fall in love with them, but then when you move closer their hearts are empty, they have no substance, nothing of value, your life is not better after meeting them. In fact, you start regretting why you meet them in the first place.
Imagine entering a beautiful restaurant, well decorated only for the food to be brought to you and it’s tasteless, or the kitchen is beautifully very dirty, or their staffs have Msc in rudeness; how awful.
I believe we as individuals should be more focused on our inner man, our character, our behaviour, the way we relate to others. It’s easy for people to be attracted to you, but I believe it’s your character that will keep them. We should make it our goal to make a positive difference in the life of everyone we come across. No matter what happens in that relationship, they would always remember you for the good you did in their lives.
1 Peter 3:3, “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewellery or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight”.
Let me make it clear that I’m by no means suggesting we don’t wear jewellery or look good; if you know me well I love jewellery, and I love to look good. But what I’m saying is, we should focus more on our character and making an impact in the lives of people.
I love you for reading; unfortunately for me; right now, I’m stuck with my beautiful useless phone.
I’d love to know your thoughts; kindly leave a comment.
