Some days back, a friend asked me to type some documents for her, (thing is I’m very good at typing, and it’s something I enjoy doing). I type a lot for my colleagues and friends alike. I had done same for her previously, so it wasn’t out of place when she asked again.
But; this time around I wasn’t willing to help her type. The last time I helped her typed a very bulky document, which took me several days to finish she wasn’t appreciative. You see, every day at work whenever I was free, all I did was type her document; I wasn’t even going on lunch break cos I was typing.
Imagine my shock when I was done, not even a word of thank you was said; instead she was even angry that I took a long time. This was something I wasn’t even going to be paid for. I was shocked and said nothing.
Until… some days ago when she came again with another bulky document asking for my help; I was like ok, but I’m busy now. She said no problem and dropped it. I kept on doing my work, later she was like how far now, I want that document today oh, I said it’s too bulky I won’t be able to finish it today. She then said, just type two (2) pages that I’ll use today, I said ok.
Immediately I was done with the two pages, I handed them over to her with the original copy; she then said no keep the original copy and help me type it at your leisure time. Immediately I refused, I told her I can’t type that work, it’s too stressful. She tried to protest, I would have given in, until I remembered the last time.
What am I driving at with this story? The issue of gratefulness. I thought to myself if ordinary me wouldn’t want to do something for someone again, because the person wasn’t grateful, how much more God. Even Paul had to admonish that someone should be greeted for working hard, “ Greet Mary, who worked very hard for you” Romans 16:6 I began thinking to myself maybe that’s why we don’t get anything from God, because we have refused to appreciate him for the things He has done in the past.
Being in constant communication with God throughout the day is a great way to show thankfulness and honor.
Psalm 100:4 “Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name”.
Psalm 106:1 “Praise the Lord, Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever”.
No matter our situation we can be thankful for what God has done for us and for what He promises to do for us. Glorify Him in everything. One easy way to do this is keep a thanksgiving journal, this is important so you don’t forget what God has done in time past. “Bless the Lord, O my soul and forget not all His benefits” Psalm 103:2
You don’t have to wait till He does big things, before you thank Him. Thank Him for the little miracles He brings your way. Thank Him for Life, for breath, for His mercy, for Health, for the gift of family, for Food, for water, for your job. The job you’re hate right now, is what someone is believing God for.
When you thank God, you open more doors of blessings your way, notice in the bible that before Jesus performed any miracle, He always thanked God first. Matt 15:36, John 11:41-42
I pray that from today we shall become people of gratitude, giving thanks to God and always appreciating our fellow man. God bless you.
