I read this verse this morning and it’s so profound. A preacher once said that a lot of road accidents are caused because drivers are distracted by the sidewalks, ie drivers are distracted by the women who are walking on the side. It was funny at the time, but the more I thought about it, the more I felt sad.
I don’t know about you, but the things I see most often than not has an effect on me. If I watch a horror movie or an obscene act, somehow the images keep playing across my mind and begin to haunt me.
Some weeks back I and my brother were talking about movies and he mentioned Spartacus. I remember when Spartacus came out it was so popular, was practically everywhere and people kept talking about it, so I made a point of note to see it. Jeez, I just couldn’t. As far as I’m concerned Spartacus is the most devilish series ever.
I then told my brother no wonder our generation is so immoral, when you put into consideration the amount of nonsense, in the name of movies/series that we have seen. Movies with very obscene scenes are getting more popular now, with Game of thrones, OITNB, etc. GOT is now a worldwide phenomenon, just imagine the number of young people, teenagers that have seen GOT and want to experiment what they watch. I wouldn’t be surprised some people watch GOT because of the sex scenes.
What am I saying in earnest, let’s be careful what we see, the movies we see, the books we read. Did I mention Fifty Shades of Grey? Hmmmm. The movie is not even as bad as the book, Fifty Shades of Grey Trilogy is just pornography in hard print. When I was reading the books, I had to skip many chapters, if you read that book, you need Jesus to flush your mind, it’s terrible.
I wish that the way we read/watch these things is measurable to the way we study the bible, cos the Word of God is needed to flush our dirty minds. Our society is getting more corrupt, and we need to be more watchful; the packaging of evil is looking more attractive.
What we see, what we read goes a long way in forming our thoughts, our thoughts form our actions/behaviours. The more of God’s word we read, the more we become like Him.
Let’s be careful and watchful the books we read, the movies we see, and the friends we keep, all these shape our behaviours. Parents shouldn’t give impressionable kids a mobile device and if you must, control what they use it for, monitor their tv time, get to know their friends, Children of nowadays need to be watched, more importantly be their friend.
The Lord will help us all as we conform to him.
