I attended a woman’s conference this weekend and the topic was a “Beautiful Woman”. I’ll be sharing a snippet of what was discussed there.
A beautiful woman is a woman who has beauty, brains and virtue. We’ll discuss each separately.
Some Christians take 1 Peter 3:3 which says “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes”, very literally to mean that you shouldn’t look good. I believe the problem is when we take our physical beauty as a priority or spending endless hours, or spending too much money taking care of our outward appearance for example, instead of paying tithes using the money to buy cosmetics.
As women we should look good and take care of our appearance, but we should do it modestly and decently, portraying Christ that we follow.
Psalm 139:14 says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful I know that full well”. As a woman you’re beautiful, made in the image of God, one of his most cherished handwork and all the works of God are wonderful, never let anyone tell you otherwise.
Brains is much more than just being intelligent or academically good (though it is also very important to have an education), it’s more about having the fruits of the spirit. Gal 5:21 “But the fruits of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law”. Having brains is also about having Wisdom and exhibiting wisdom in every area of life, our speech, behaviours and actions. A woman who is lead by the spirit of God will never make error in life.
Our definition of a virtuous woman will be based on Prov 31:10-31
She is worth far more than rubies: which means she is not cheap, she knows she’s a woman of value and treats herself as such vs 10.
Her Husband has confidence in her: that means she’s trustworthy vs 11.
She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life: which means she looks to his welfare, she wouldn’t do or say anything that’ll harm him, prays for him and is concerned about him as long as she lives vs 12.
She’s hardworking vs 13-15.
She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard: she’s an investor; she doesn’t spend all she earns vs 16.
She’s a planner vs18,21.
She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy: She’s kind and generous vs 20.
She dresses well and doesn’t wear low quality material vs 22b.
She’s a woman of dignity and strength vs 25.
She’s not naïve and she’s aware of every happening in her home, nothing takes her unaware vs 26a, 27.
She doesn’t talk anyhow and when she talks her words are words of wisdom vs 26a.
“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to praised”.
